At the Interface of Elements:
A Novel

A modern-day Gulliver, swept away by the sea, finds himself adrift among the creatures of the deep. He discovers that the residents of each realm are eager to share their wisdom on time, space, and existence.

Does he truly want to hear their stories? What choice does he have but to listen and learn?
From the depths of the seas to the expanse of the stars, this fantastical tale explores the delight and guilt of man's interaction with nature.

Like Gulliver's Travels meets Jacques Cousteau, this fantastical book, artfully written in first person, touches on the delight—and guilt—of man's interaction with nature. It will take you from the depths of the seas to the expanse of the stars.

A novel by Curt Mattson.

A God That Hides:
Struggling with the Book of Job

One man in a faraway country, uncounted years ago, becomes part of a cosmic contest in the courts of heaven and in so doing becomes a key to our understanding so many things about God, the world, friendship and communication, wealth and generosity.

In A God That Hides, the author wrestles right along with the reader, offering no easy answers but compelling both writer and reader to — as the Bible says — “wait upon the Lord.”

The Tablets:
Ten Tales of Our Times

Every day, the Ten Commandments face fracture.

It's not always blood on the bricks or stains on the sheets, but often through small, everyday mistakes, daily slips that chip away at these ancient edicts.

Skipping good acts, we end up the same — broken commandments, broken lives.

Through these ten short stories, the author delves into the myriad ways we inadvertently break these biblical rules, revealing the quiet erosion of sacred codes and the consequent slow splintering of our lives.

Bully Pulpit: A Novel

Serial Church Killer on the Loose!

That’s what the headline might have read. A one-man army is crossing the nation with a personal vendetta against anything religious. He sows fear in the hearts of everyday parishioners without firing a single shot.

Baptist. Lutheran. Episcopal. Presbyterian. Catholic. Entire churches are emptied with the words of one man and his self-declared ‘Cross-Country Crusade to Crush Christianity.’

How will each churchgoer react, knowing that they could die by just entering the church door? Will they run and hide ... hunt him down ... turn the other cheek?

Bully Pulpit is a sometimes comical, sometimes cynical look into the mind — and heart — of the American church attendee.

Metaphors of Majesty:
How God Paints Pictures of Himself

Illustrating the nature of God, of man, and of their relationship.

“No man has seen God at any time.”1 ... “No man can see God and live.”2 ... “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.”3

If that's true, then everything about God is unknowable unless he chooses to make himself known. And, like any good teacher, he has to show us by relating himself with something we already know.

So this blog is a word study, but more, it is a grace study — a study in the grace that God showed in revealing himself in ways we can understand.
